Conversion: Suspension upgrade

While almost every current passenger car has a suspension that is adequate at cruising speed or well under the limit of tire adhesion, the suspension systems of most passenger vehicles and light trucks and some sports cars are not adequate for hard or sport driving or for towing.  Most stock suspension systems lack sufficient thermal capacity - the system's ability to absorb and transfer heat by conduction, convection and radiation into the air or surrounding structure during severe driving.  In addition many stock dampers and their rubber mountings are structurally not stiff enough at higher speeds.  Most OEM dampers are also not designed for severe use, since comfort and quiet operation typically are considered more important to new car buyers.

During the process of any vehicle tuning/ modification/upgrade the vehicle’s speed and acceleration capabilities are enhanced.  These capabilities often over stress the suspension systems and result in a vehicle which is difficult to control and is unsafe.  Therefore the need for performance dampers/shock absorbers and suspension upgrades.

Innovative Design
RGM
works in partnership with SAX in the design and development of of our vehicle suspension upgrades, our engineers benefit from SAX’s many years of know-how and experience in supplying to Original Equipment Manufacturers and involvement in special projects such as rally and other racing activities.
SAX serve our sporting drivers with a carefully designed range of sport shock absorbers and suspension hardware

Custom Made
SAX shock absorbers are specifically developed for our vehicles and driving conditions, eg. road, track vehicles or off road vehicles, with precisely determined damping forces and characteristics. A SAX suspension is not a simple copy of the original but a custom design in order to get the best comfort and
exceptional road holding performance. Their characteristics include responsive steering, reduced body-roll and limited body movements. Externally manually adjustable shock absorbers make fine tuning even more easy. The adjustable damping monotube gas shock absorbers feature multiple stage precise compression and rebound settings, from comfort to competition. Where applicable Coil Over shocks feature variable lowering/raising to dial in perfect handling and improved safety. This is also relevant on 4x4’s where the suspension can be raised in front to offset the weight of bushbars, winches etc.

Shock Absorber Dyno
In developing a new suspension for our vehicles SAX will test the dampers
on a shock dyno. This dyno tells us how a shock will behave at every velocity you are likely to see on the road or racetrack.  Shock movements associated with body roll, squat, dive-  normally range between zero and 100mm per second. Bumps, holes and other harsh road/track conditions generally fall into the 150mm to 300mm per second range. This makes it easier to diagnose what is happening where on the dyno damper curve sheet.(Shock dyno sheets graph shaft velocity along an axis of force exerted in both compression and rebound)

Other suspension components available besides dampers include

  • Billet anodised aluminium super light control arms.
  • Billet anodised aluminium camber adjustment fixtures.
