Conversion: Boost upgrade        Mini Cooper S

This conversion is a high output, high quality installation which results in engine performance increasing from 120kw to 150kw, that is a 22% increase. The torque is improved by as much as 15%. Maximum torque is now reached at lower engine rpm.

This conversion consists of the following:

  • A new crankshaft pulley is installed in place of the original part with a bigger diameter as a new drive multigroove belt. Engine boost pressure is increased from 0.55 bar to 0.74 bar at 6000 feet above sea level (the reef), one could expect more boost improvement at sea level.
  • A totally new stainless steel complete exhaust system, which also excludes the use of the catalytic convertors. The exhaust sound is far from standard and suits the characteristics of the car.
  • The original engine electronics is totally re-mapped by use of the piggyback unichip system.

Intercooler spray system

The MINI has a very aggressive engine management system that dramatically impedes performance by retarding the ignition timing if certain temperature thresholds are reached. The system helps to prevent the premature onset of this situation. Water is fed to the spray bar’s single, centrally-positioned jet which supplies a fine mist of water to the intercooler. reducing the intake temperature by 25 to 35 degrees. To keep this water as cool as possible, it is stored in a 9.5 litre, fully-baffled aluminum tank, mounted in the boot.

Oil Cooler Upgrade

A 10-row Setrab oil cooler replaces the standard heat exchanger,and is effective in reducing oil temperature by up to 20 degrees. Once again all hoses and connectors are of the highest quality, and distinctive blue and red lightweight anodized Goodridge fittings predominate. The oil cooler fits snugly behind the lower part of the grille, mounted on stainless steel brackets. The oil take-off plate that is used where the heat exchanger was once fitted is manufactured from B51 aircraft aluminum.

Strut Brace

The RGM engine strut brace that has been designed especially for the MINI by the CAD team at RGM. This three-piece all aluminum fabrication features two B51 (aircraft ally) billet end pieces that bolt onto the upper shock absorber mountings, linked by a rectangular extrusion running directly across the engine bay.

Header tank upgrade

This significant improvement brings no performance benefits, but could make the difference between getting home safely or being stranded next to the road. The std. cooling system is fitted with a plastic header tank. In some instances eg. stiffer suspension, these have a tendency to leak. The new tank is made from highly polished 2,5mm aluminum and is fitted with a tube indicator so that the water level can be checked at a glance.

Suspension Upgrade

Coil springs only are changed. These are fully imported. The drop in ride height is approximately 30mm, improving road holding and adding sex appeal to the car.
